Troll A Flexjoint Drill Shaft North and South

RaKon has carried out the inspection and rehabilitation of 80 flexjoint bearings on the Troll A platform, including concrete repair works and the upgrade of protective covers and fastening systems. The work has been executed in multiple phases based on criticality assessments, under challenging access conditions and within highly confined work areas.

The flexjoints in the North and South drill shafts of Troll A transfer loads from the topside structure into the concrete substructure, which extends an impressive 320 metres below the main deck. In total, there are 80 of these bearings, all of which required concrete rehabilitation as well as upgrades to their protective covers and fastening systems.

RaKon has carried out the inspection and rehabilitation of these flexjoint bearings in several phases, prioritised according to criticality assessments. As with many of our projects, access conditions have been challenging. However, in this case, the primary challenge has not been working at height, but operating within highly confined spaces with limited room for personnel, equipment, and materials
